From Self-Suppression to Empowerment
“When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.” – Audre Lorde
I used to think I was too much: too loud, bold, opinionated, brash, rambunctious. I was full of cries, demands, and tantrums as a child. I was convinced I was bad to my core, even as I grew up with straight A’s, incredible resilience, and a fiercely compassionate heart.
I tried to suppress my feminine power by starving myself, using anorexia as a silent, but ineffective, protest to all the wrongs in the world. Unwittingly, I stripped away my power in a slow suicide.
Now, I am no longer afraid. I boldly use my voice and take up all the space I can. I am an activist, a speaker, a poet. My gifts are used to empower other women, to help them uncover their truth and voice it loud and proud.
There is no shame in being authentic and telling my story, since it serves my vision of helping women.
Changing Energy, Changing Life
“When you change your energy, you change your life.” – Abraham Maslow
This quote has helped me many times, and while it does sound nice to say, it’s much more beautiful to live out this quote. I have found multiple times in my life when I have hit various low points financially, I’ve been able to recognize the energy I was putting out around finances, make an internal shift towards abundance, and then in a very short period of time, opportunities consistently started to come up.
Leaving this quote out is very important whether it’s around finances or any other area of life as it truly helps guide us towards the life that we desire. Whether our energy is negative or positive, we will get more of what we are putting out.
Embracing Constant Change
“The only thing that is constant is change.” – Heraclitus.
This quote has been a guiding principle, reminding me to embrace change proactively, view challenges as opportunities, and continually evolve to navigate the dynamic business landscape successfully.
Choosing Growth Over Safety
“In any given moment, we have two options: to step forward into growth or to step back into safety.” – Abraham Maslow
The quote serves as a reminder that people face a choice when confronted with change. The option is to embrace the unknown and take risks, or to retreat to what is familiar and comfortable but may not allow for progress.
In my personal and professional journey of change, this quote encouraged me to prioritize growth over the allure of safety and the status quo. I understood that by promoting a proactive and forward-looking mindset, navigating change can be effective and painless. I have the agency to choose growth, innovation, and adaptation.
As Maslow emphasizes, uncertainty and discomfort may accompany stepping forward into development. The quote inspired me to take bold steps, pursue new opportunities, and embrace change as a chance for self-discovery.
Looking Forward Amidst Change
“Change is a natural part of life, and if we only focus on what has been or what is, we’ll miss out on what’s coming next.” – John F. Kennedy
This quote serves as a reminder that life keeps moving and change is inevitable. It’s a message not to get stuck in old ways or present troubles, because that will blind us to new opportunities. This quote deeply touched and inspired a journey to become a business owner.
The realization came that being stuck in a current job and missing the exciting world of entrepreneurship was not desirable. It encouraged looking forward and dreaming bigger, which led to the start of an own online store with partners. Selling surfing gear was a passion I always had, and I saw the future potential in it.
This quote was a gentle push that made chasing dreams and not just staying comfortable with the familiar possible.
Humility in Knowledge Gaps
“Knowing what you don’t know is more useful than being brilliant.” – Charlie Munger
Embracing humility in the face of rapid technological changes keeps the learning curve steep and the mind open. This quote serves as a reminder that expertise isn’t a destination, but a journey, particularly in dynamic fields like machine learning or digital marketing. Acknowledging gaps in knowledge is the first step to filling them, and the humility to accept this fact can be a strong guide during transitions.
Surrendering for Transformation
“Change is the essence of life; be willing to surrender what you are for what you could become.” – Reinhold Niebuhr
This quote has resonated with my journey of change and transformation because it reminds me that change is a natural and necessary part of life. It encourages me to let go of my old ways and embrace new opportunities for growth and development.
It has guided me through transitions by reminding me that sometimes letting go of the familiar can lead to something even better. It has given me the courage to take risks and embrace change, knowing that it is a necessary part of my journey toward becoming the best version of myself.
This quote serves as a constant reminder that change is not always easy, but it is necessary for personal growth and transformation.
Courage to Take the First Step
“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” – Lao Tzu
This quote has been a constant reminder for me not to be overwhelmed by the enormity of a task or a change that I am facing. Instead, it has taught me to focus on taking the first step, no matter how small it may seem.
This has been a guiding principle for me during transitions, providing me with the courage to initiate change and the patience to persist. Whether it was moving to a new city, starting a new job, or even forming a new habit, this quote has always helped me to break down the process into manageable steps and celebrate each small victory along the way.
