- Pets Mirror Our Best Selves
Pets Are Family
I’m passionate about pets the same way I’m passionate about my own family, because pets are just that: family. Ask any dog or cat owner, and they’ll say the same thing. Pets mean so much to us emotionally and mentally that it’s impossible to see them any other way, so they, of course, deserve the same love, care, and attention that any person does. In our organization, that will always be an integral part of our ongoing mission.
Pets Enhance Well-Being
Pets significantly contribute to our well-being by fostering a sense of responsibility and routine. Their consistent need for care and attention encourages a structured daily schedule, promoting discipline and time management.
Pets also reduce stress and improve mental health. Caring for an animal provides a sense of purpose, and the companionship they offer can alleviate feelings of loneliness. Integrating pets into our lives allows us to develop empathy and compassion as we become attuned to their needs and emotions.
Pets encourage physical activity through activities like walks and play, promoting a healthier lifestyle. The benefits of having pets extend beyond mere companionship, positively influencing various aspects of our lives, from mental well-being to physical health. Embracing the responsibilities associated with pet ownership can lead to a more fulfilling and balanced life.
Pets Facilitate Self-Discovery
I’ve always thought that pets teach us a lot about ourselves. What kind of pet did you choose? How do you interact with them? What do you like most about having one? What do you like the least?
Having a pet is a massive journey of self-discovery, one that you can’t really undergo without one, short of having a child, which is just a pet that learns to talk, to go by the words of the funny cast of the show Scrubs. They become little furry members of the family in less time than it takes to blink, and I think while not everyone can or should have a pet, the people that do stand to learn a lot.
Pets Mirror Our Best Selves
In many ways, pets reflect the best version of ourselves we could possibly be. Think of how your dog sees you, regardless of whether you’re a good person or how hard you try at work or any other factor. I find this incredibly motivating because you try to live up to the image that they have of you. If you ever feel like you’re the sort of person that your dog thinks you are, you’ve really made it in life, I think.
