I have been passionate about traveling to Italy ever since and have been professionally guiding travelers on small-group tours there since 2013. Being a history buff, I find that one of the benefits of traveling is discovering hidden gems and secrets that most people overlook. Human beings are naturally curious creatures. Traveling satisfies this curiosity by presenting us with the opportunity to uncover the unknown and learn about places we've only read or heard about. Stepping into a foreign land allows me to embrace my inner Indiana Jones. (Although, the TSA confiscated my bullwhip the last time I tried to carry it on—so beware.)For instance, here in my hometown, Fort Worth, Texas, there is a lonely historical marker on the street. Most people walk by it every day without a second look. It just blends into the scenery. However, it tells the story of a gunfight from the late 1800s. The very gunfight that caused all the spaghetti westerns to have the cowboys meet at high noon. Every city has a unique history. Traveling makes that history come to life!
