Combining Creativity and Strategy in PR

PR combines everything I love: content writing, creativity, research, collaboration, and most importantly, helping out brands. I love being able to flex my writing and creative muscles in a way that helps brands get the recognition and fanfare they deserve, and nothing makes me happier than when I score a link in a top publication.

To me, PR is like a puzzle, and being able to utilize my knowledge of the media, consumer habits, trends, and the news cycle to curate a brand’s image is a challenge I love to tackle every day. Coming from a media and creative background, PR allows me to use every skill in my arsenal, and no day is ever the same—something I love as a professional with ADHD.

Every day I’m engaging in something exciting, whether that’s writing up a reactive press release, liaising with journalists, or booking clients for interviews or events. I’m passionate about PR because I’m doing something I love every day that has tangible results.

Achieving Dreams Through Publicity

If you look up one of the most stressful jobs, you’ll likely see ‘publicist’ somewhere on that list. This is because brands hire publicists to achieve big goals. These may look like putting their businesses on the map, positioning them as authorities in their industry, increasing their brand awareness, breaking them into new networks, earning meaningful press opportunities that truly tell their story, or building new and sustainable sales funnels through consistent press features.

As a public relations professional, I also have to be ready to coordinate media opportunities at the drop of a hat. On the flip side, PR is one of the most rewarding career choices that I could have made for myself! I am solely responsible for making some of my clients’ wildest dreams come true. PR is my passion because of the outcome.

Driving Change with Thoughtful Campaigns

Over the course of my 20-year career, I’ve worked in agencies, owned my own agency with a business partner, and now I am on the ‘client side.’ In this time, I have been lucky enough to work on all manner of brands—from dog food to diamonds and everything in between. I still get a rush when I see my work appearing in the media! No two days are the same, and my job is never boring; that’s for sure. PR has the power to drive change—that’s why I love this industry so much. A well-crafted, thoughtful campaign that is based on real insights can change opinions, drive conversations, and impact sales.

Impactful Outreach for Small Businesses

Public Relations, for me, is such a rewarding career simply because I can be impactful in my outreach. It’s liberating to bring awareness to small businesses because they’re doing things that are changing the lives of those around us. As a PR pro, I believe you must have that grit and passion for storytelling and convincing people to share and tell your story. When clients can witness the power of publicity, they become aware of its importance, and they learn what makes their business newsworthy.

In this industry, it’s truly a passion and love for the craft. Not everyone can deal with the pressure or rejection of media pitching, strategies, etc., but when you’ve built this into who you are and your persona, it begins to become natural, and that’s what I love about it. PR is not just something you say you do; it’s something that you’re built to do. I was born to do this!

Building Trust Through Strategic Communication

My passion for public relations stems from the profound impact it has on building and nurturing relationships between an organization and its various stakeholders. This passion is rooted in the belief that communication is the cornerstone of trust and understanding, key elements that drive any organization’s success.

One particular experience that solidified my passion for public relations was during my tenure at Resorts World Manila (RWM). I was involved in the Pinoy Ultimate Jeepney Design Competition, a project that was not just a marketing initiative but a cultural celebration. This campaign allowed us to engage with the community, showcase Filipino creativity, and foster a sense of pride and belonging. Witnessing the enthusiasm of the participants and the positive media attention, I realized the power of public relations to inspire, engage, and unite people.

At SAFC, this passion continued to evolve, especially through the ‘SAFC’s #IamGREENHERO Reduce, Reuse, Redrive’ campaign. It wasn’t just about promoting a product; it was about instigating a movement towards sustainability. The campaign’s success in changing perceptions and behaviors towards secondhand car financing demonstrated to me how public relations can be a force for positive change, aligning public interests with business objectives.

These experiences have taught me that public relations is not just about managing reputations or crafting messages; it’s about creating meaningful connections and fostering a dialogue that can lead to real-world impacts. It is this ability to influence, educate, and engage that drives my passion for public relations, making it not just a profession but a purpose.

Thrill of Client Features and Global Learning

When I started my journey in Public Relations, it was by accident. But over the years, I have learned and grown in the field simply because of the excitement I feel every time I see my clients featured. The thrill of speaking to new people and being exposed to clients—big and small—not only is a great way to learn more about the world but also keeps you up to date on the happenings around the world. My passion for public relations purely stems from the mystery as well as the thrill of helping my clients grow!

This aspect of PR not only keeps my workday interesting but also enhances my professional adaptability. It’s this opportunity for perpetual learning and the promise of broadening career prospects that fuel my passion for the field.

Creative Campaigns and Relationship Building

I’m passionate about PR for so many reasons! It’s a creative field, so I regularly create campaigns and strategies to grab my audience’s attention. I love solving challenges, and the field offers me plenty. Brainstorming on improving public perception or managing crises appeals a lot to me. I love interacting with people, and my job is all about building and nurturing relationships. I talk to different clients, media houses, influencers, the public, and more, and it’s a fulfilling task.

I love how effectively communicating leaves a positive impact on my organization. Whether shaping public opinion or influencing someone’s behavior, PR is vital to any company, and I can’t state its importance enough!

Fueling Artist Brands with Music Marketing

Working in music marketing and PR is a dream come true for me, as it allows me to combine my love for music with my skills in communication and promotion. I thrive on the creativity and energy of the music industry, where every campaign presents a unique opportunity to craft compelling narratives, generate excitement around new releases, and foster meaningful connections between artists and their fans. Whether it’s organizing album launches, securing media coverage, or curating engaging social media content, I’m passionate about leveraging my expertise to help artists build their brand and reach new audiences. Ultimately, music marketing and PR is not just a job for me—it’s a way to contribute to the vibrant and ever-evolving world of music while making a tangible impact on artists’ careers.
