Why Are You Passionate About Photography?

We’ve tapped into the creative minds of photographers and founders to discover the driving force behind their passion for photography. From a family photographer’s quest to capture emotional connections to a multifaceted professional who sees photography as a lifelong voice, explore the four heartfelt reasons that fuel their dedication to this art form.

  • Capturing Emotional Connections
  • Sharing Moments and Adventures
  • Inspiring Appreciation of Nature
  • Photography as a Lifelong Voice

Capturing Emotional Connections

I am incredibly passionate about people photography because it captures the most important aspect of our lives: connection and relationships. Through the lens, a camera can immortalize feelings, transforming emotions into tangible memories. This genre of photography holds immense value, as it allows individuals to relive moments of love and connection, especially after a loved one has passed away. By freezing these intimate and heartfelt interactions, photography is a real gift.

Sharing Moments and Adventures

I’ve loved photography ever since I used my first camera. The ability to capture a moment and share it is what keeps me coming back to photography. My passion for it also encourages me to get out more, explore our beautiful landscapes, and embark on new adventures. Sharing my unique perspective, creativity, and travel experiences are all key reasons that fuel my passion for photography.

Inspiring Appreciation of Nature

As a travel photographer, my passion for photography is deeply rooted in my connection with nature. I feel a profound sense of peace and inspiration when I’m out in the wild, surrounded by the beauty of untouched landscapes. Capturing the intricate details of a dew-kissed spiderweb at dawn or the majestic sweep of a mountain range at sunset allows me to share the awe and tranquility I experience in these moments.

Photography is my way of preserving the fleeting beauty of nature and sharing it with others. It’s a meditative practice that brings me closer to the world around me, and through my lens, I aim to inspire others to appreciate and protect our natural environment. The thrill of discovering and documenting the wonders of nature keeps my passion for photography alive and ever-growing.

Photography as a Lifelong Voice

Santa gave me my first camera in 1962, when I was six. I’ve been in love with image-making ever since. Along the way, I began teaching photography to kids as young as nine and seniors as old as eighty-plus years. My first full-time job was as a freelance writer and photographer.

What fuels such passion for a “hobby?” Because it is not—photography provides a way of seeing the world and a voice. Everyone wants a voice, wants to be heard, wants to be understood. Photography provides that. In a world of busyness and distraction, photography provides a way to limit our view to what is important in the moment (focal length), and a chance to focus (literally and figuratively) on things that inspire us.

Photography has been part of my life and every career path throughout the decades. It has been a vocation and is always an avocation. I love to create images because I love seeing the world and seeing life through a lens; and, I love teaching others how to do the same.
