Educate Small Business Owners

In 1995, when the internet was in its infancy, I was doing computer graphic design. As a creative, I enjoyed helping small businesses promote their goods and services.

Upon discovering the World Wide Web (WWW), I said, “I can do that!” and learned how to create websites. I also had to educate small business owners on the power and potential of the internet.

Fast forward almost 30 years, and my passion is still educating, training, and coaching small business owners on how to use digital online media to cost-effectively promote their businesses.

I remember teaching a live class once, and a gal in the front row all of a sudden had this “aha” moment look on her face.

I looked at her, and she said, “I just got it! I see how it works. Thank you!”

That’s why I do what I do.

Bridge Geographical Distances

My passion for online media stems from its unique ability to bridge geographical distances, offer diverse perspectives, and democratize access to information and knowledge. Here’s why online media captivates me:

  1. Instant Accessibility and Global Reach: The immediacy not only fuels my curiosity but also keeps me connected to the world, allowing me to stay informed and engaged with global events.
  2. Diverse Voices and Perspectives: The diversity helps me to see the world through a multifaceted lens—i.e., different thoughts and views—broadening my own understanding of cultures, values, and ideas.
  3. Engagement and Interaction: Unlike passive media forms, online media allows active engagement. Comment sections, forums, and social media communities give people a voice and a space for discussion. Engaging with content in real time—whether through sharing insights, asking questions, or joining in debates—makes the consumption of information a dynamic experience. This interaction is energizing and fuels my passion for exploring new viewpoints and building meaningful connections.
  4. Empowerment and Education: Online media is a treasure trove of educational resources. It empowers people by making knowledge accessible to all, regardless of their background.
  5. Innovation and Creativity: I’m particularly inspired by the endless ways in which people can tell stories visually, audibly, or interactively. This creativity keeps the medium exciting and fuels my own drive to explore new methods of expression.

Empower Diverse Voices

Never before have individuals from around the world been able to exert such rapid and significant influence on the global media landscape. From creatives producing digital art to podcasters sharing their voices, online media has become more accessible than ever. It fosters connections among diverse perspectives and empowers those who previously lacked opportunities in media to showcase their opinions and talents.

Amplify Voices in Real-Time

I’m excited about online media because of the way it brings people and ideas together in real-time. Early in my career, I worked on a local project that received unexpected attention via social media. What began as a tiny project suddenly evolved into a community effort when the right people noticed it at the right moment. That experience demonstrated the power of online platforms to amplify voices and generate impact.

What I enjoy most about feedback is its immediate nature. Traditional media generally does not observe the audience’s reaction until much later; however, online, you may alter your strategy in real-time based on engagement and responses. This dynamic environment keeps me constantly learning and improving my communication skills.

For me, it’s more than just sharing content; it’s also about encouraging two-way exchanges. The chance to interact directly with people all around the world, hear their stories, and create something important together is what makes internet media so appealing. That constant interaction fuels my desire.

Connect Beyond Healthcare Settings

Online media has given me a unique way to connect with people outside of the typical healthcare setting. I’ve used platforms like YouTube and Instagram to make complicated medical information easier to understand. When I first launched a series on heart health, I noticed people began sharing their own stories and asking follow-up questions in the comments. It felt like I was having direct conversations—something that wouldn’t happen in a clinic where time is limited. This conversation inspired me to produce even more content that addressed people’s main concerns and provided useful guidance they could implement on a daily basis.

When it comes to medications, I found that explaining things clearly makes a big difference. In one of my videos about blood pressure medication, I used simple analogies to explain why taking it regularly is so important. People seemed to appreciate knowing why consistency mattered, and it led to many reaching out to ask about their own experiences. Instead of just telling them what to do, I wanted them to feel confident about their treatment plans, and online media gave me a chance to do that. It also opened up space for more honest conversations, where people felt comfortable discussing their concerns and challenges.

Build Trust Through Transparency

I am passionate about online media because it allows me to connect with customers in a way that builds trust and communicates the quality of our services. In the tree-service industry, safety, expertise, and reputation are critical to gaining customer confidence, and online media offer a platform to showcase these strengths with transparency.

For example, a customer once reached out after seeing one of our detailed pruning videos online. They had a large, historic oak tree with sentimental value that had been suffering from root issues. After watching our videos and reading customer reviews, they felt comfortable reaching out to us, knowing we prioritize tree health and preservation. Through this connection, we provided not only a safe and effective solution but also empowered them with knowledge to help maintain the tree for years to come.

My years of experience as a certified arborist and TRAQ-certified professional allowed me to offer solutions tailored to the tree’s unique health needs while ensuring the customer felt involved and confident in every step. The visibility and educational potential of online media help us demonstrate our expertise, which is invaluable in an industry like ours where trust is paramount. This example shows how online media can bridge the gap between specialized knowledge and customer trust, leading to stronger, longer-lasting client relationships.

Create Genuine Connections

I’m drawn to online media because of its unique ability to bring people together, regardless of where they’re from. There’s something exciting about sharing stories, ideas, and perspectives that might not otherwise reach beyond their local communities.

I love seeing a post or article resonate with someone halfway across the globe, sparking real conversations and sometimes even friendships. It’s more than just broadcasting information; it’s about creating connections that feel genuine and meaningful.

To me, online media is like a bridge—allowing us to share stories that inspire, educate, or simply make someone’s day a little brighter. It’s that sense of connection that keeps me passionate about this field.

Drive New Inquiries

I’m passionate about online media because, as managing partner overseeing our firm’s divisions, I understand just how critical it is for driving new inquiries. Intake is the lifeblood of our firm—it’s where relationships start and where we can begin making a difference in people’s lives. By harnessing the power of online media, we can reach clients who need our help, educate them on their options, and build trust right from the start. For me, online media isn’t just a marketing tool; it’s a vital connection point that brings clients through our doors, ready to partner with us to resolve their legal issues.
