5 Things I’m Excited About on a Friday - 6/8/07

June 8, 2007 | by brett | Permalink

It’s time to get excited again because it is finally Friday.

Here are my five things I’m excited about.

1) I’m excited about a meeting I am having in a few hours with a sponsor that is interested in not only sponsoring the upcoming trip, but helping develop the idea into something much greater than it already is. The best sponsors are the ones that don’t just provide you with one resource (money), but are committed to help with whatever resources they have available. This is definitely one of those sponsors, so wish me luck.

2) Portland. Yes, going to Portland, Oregon on July 23rd-July 25th has me excited. Why? Based on the stories that have been rolling in, I’ve made the conclusion that Portland is the creative hotbed in the United States. The people that make up the city of Portland seem very passionate about what they do, and most of them are making money in a non-traditional type of way. I’m looking forward to seeing how they are making a living on doing something so 180 degrees of what everyone else is doing.

3) Couchsurfing.com. If you haven’t visited it, go there. It is a community filled with some of the coolest, most laid back people you will ever find. Couchsurfing.com is like a myspace for people willing to have travelers crash their couch for a night or two. In the past week, Jay has made some serious connections on couchsurfing, and we now tentatively only have five more cities to find a place to stay (Memphis, Madison, Las Vegas, Lawrence, and New Orleans).

4) The Pursue the Passion Ambassador Program. This program was created to provide interested students with a way to get involved without taking too much off their plate. Danielle Ouellette, a student from Northeastern, is a model for this program. She has helped us book an interview in New York (Steve Cody), invited all her friends to join our Pursue the Passion Facebook group, and has actively participated in the discussions on this blog. Those three p’s are what the Ambassador program is all about…planning, promoting, participating, and is something you can put on the resume.

5) Another program we have going is the “Passionger Program.” You have to sound it out for this one to make sense- Passion-ger- also sounds like – Passenger. This program picks students up for interviews that we do during the day, allowing them to personally benefit from the people we meet, and letting them be a “passionger” for the day. Feel free to contact me if you’d like to be a part of either of the two programs.

So those are my five things, what are YOU excited about?

Gotta love moms!

Anyways, what I’m excited about on this gorgeous (albeit beyond humid) Friday:

1. Harassing anyone and everyone I know to be interviewed for PTP — including potential people in Houston, San Diego, Atlanta, DC, and Boston.

2. Getting a shoutout in the newsletter & this post!

3. Sending out postcards (designed by my awesome roomate with custom artwork by her bf) for my family’s big 4th of July party.

4. ALMOST winning our softball games last night (instead of losing by the slaughter rule).

5. T. Rowe 5K Run & Fun Walk tomorrow morning!

And I leave you with a quote:
“When we accept tough jobs as a challenge and wade into them with joy and enthusiasm, miracles can happen.”

Happy Friday!

I’m excited about:

1. Today was my last day of work (I go to a co-op school and was on a 6 month work rotation)
2. already starting to think about what i want my next co-op job to be
3. getting involved with PTP! I have a few good ideas for interviews, I think
4. Seeing my family for the first time since Christmas next week!
5. Having a few weeks with no school, no work, just getting my act together mentally and learning how to relax before heading to Europe in July.

I’m excited about a lot of things lately, I sense a good summer on all levels

I love connecting with Brett’s enthusiasm and excitement. I’m excited about getting applying to a Masters program for Non Profit Management, and finding a partner to help me co-author a book on job searching for the 45+ called Baby Boomer Bust, and learning to follow my heart’s desire.

Five things:

1. Getting a whole stack of books from the Lifeline Second-Hand book sale this morning. SO MUCH FOR SO CHEAP! Managed to get a stack of books I’ve wanted but couldn’t find, too. Great fun.

2. Discovering the offices of Visible Ink, YAQ, and TransitLounge a few days ago (they are all youth centres with emphasis on arts and community). I’ve heard about them and participated in a few activities, but never went to see them in person until then. They’re AMAZING! They have so many resources, all sorts of activities, and all for free or very cheap. Where have they been all my life?!

3. All the resources I snagged from those three places, especially the guides about starting an arts project and about mentoring. Both for free. Valuable information, this.

4. Learning about an alternative education flexi-school that’s not far from my place. Alternative education is my passion and I’ve been looking all over for places to get involved. This school is EXACTLY what I’m looking for and I’d love to work with them soon!

5. It’s very nearly the end of semester - just two assignments left. I can be done by Monday. :)
